Maria de Lourdes Soares, 82, of Westport, wife of the late Antonio Soares, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Friday, August 23, 2024 following a long illness. Born Ajuda da Bretanha, St. Michael, Azores, she was a daughter of the late Luis Faria and the late Maria Conceicao (Arruda) Faria.

Prior to her retirement she worked as a sewing machine operator in the local textile industry for many years. She loved cooking, baking, crocheting, and shopping. Most notably, Maria was a devout Catholic, valued her family, and enjoyed spending quality time with them, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She leaves her children, Breno Soares of Westport, Jose Soares of England, and Fernando Soares of the Azores; her three sisters, Teresa Furtado, Alda DeMelo, and Manuela DeMelo; two brothers, Antonio Faria and Jose Faria; and many super beloved grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was also the mother of the late Pedro Soares and sister of the late Mariana Raposo.

Her Funeral Mass was celebrated on Thursday, August 29th, at St. Anthony of Padua Church followed by her committal at Notre Dame Cemetery both in Fall River.
