Maria Luisa Costa, 66, of Fall River, wife of Joao Costa, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, May 28, 2021 at Rhode Island Hospital. Born in Faja De Baixo, St. Michael, Azores, a daughter of the late Jose Melo and the late Natalia (Sousa) Melo, she emigrated to Fall River in December of 1994. She enjoyed crocheting, knitting, and caring for her family, especially her grandchildren.

Besides her husband, she is survived by: two daughters, Susana DeSousa (husband Joseph) of Fall River and Natercia DoRego (husband Paul) of Fall River; five siblings, Joao Carreiro of Fall River, Artur Carreiro of St. Michael, Azores, Carlos Melo of Fall River, Emanuel Carreiro of Westport, and Sandra Ponte of Swansea; four grandchildren, Joseph, Nicole, Collin, and Sophie; and several nieces and nephews.

Her Funeral Mass was celebrated on Saturday, June 5th, in Santo Christo Church followed by her committal at St. Patrick Cemetery in Fall River.
