Maria G.
Mello
d. Dec 12, 2022
Maria G. Mello, 72, of Fall River, wife of John Mello, passed away peacefully on Monday, December 12, 2022 following a long illness. Born in Remedios da Bretanha, St. Michael, Azores, she was a daughter of the late Francisco Pedro and the late Maria (Aguiar) Pedro.
Prior to her retirement she worked as a sewing machine operator for Fall River Mills and Quaker Fabrics for many years. An avid sports fan, she also loved cooking, baking, trips to the casino, and traveling to such places as the Azores, Canada, and Israel. As a devout Catholic she was steadfast in upholding her faith in God throughout her illnesses. But what was most important to Maria was spending quality time with all her family, especially her grandchildren.
Besides her husband of forty-three years she leaves her daughters, Cherie Cidade and her husband, Jorge, of North Dartmouth and Felisha Mello and her fiancé, Joshua McAfee, of Fall River; her grandchildren, Alexis Ngo and Brayden McAfee; her two sisters, Amelia Espinola and her husband, Jose, and Leonilde Cabral and her husband, Gabriel, both of Fall River; brothers, Antonio Pedro and his wife, Eduarda, of the Azores and Jose Pedro and his wife, Maria, of Fall River; and many nieces and nephews. She was also the sister of the late Joao Pedro, Alda Pedro, and Margarida Machado.
Her Funeral Mass was celebrated on Saturday, December 17th, in St. Anthony of Padua Church followed by her committal at St. Patrick Cemetery.
