Maria L. "Mimia" Pereira, age 84, passed away Sunday, November 7, 2010, at the Highlander Nursing and Rehab Center in Fall River, following an extended illness. She was the widow of Carlos Pereira. Born in Fall River, she was a daughter of the late Manuel L. Pereira and the late Emilia (Medeiros) Pereira. Although a resident of Fall River for most her life, she had also lived in the village of Agua Retorta, on the island of Sao Miguel in the Azores, for ten years prior to her marriage. Mrs. Pereira was employed as a sewing machine operator for many years at the former Chesterfield Dress Manufacturing Corp. on Pleasant Street in Fall River. She was a parishioner and former Eucharistic Minister of St. Anthony of Padua Church in Fall River and a member of the Holy Rosary Society. Surviving family members include her daughter, Emily Medeiros of Fall River, a brother Jose L. Pereira of Fall River, two grandchildren, Robert Medeiros and Richard Medeiros, and many nieces and nephews. She was also the sister of the late Luis Pereira, Manuel L. Pereira and Georgelina Resendes. Her Funeral Mass was celebrated in St Anthony of Padua Church on Wednesday, Nov. 10, followed by committal services at St. Patrick Cemetery on Robeson Street in Fall River.
