Maria L. (Pavao) Monte, 78, of Swansea, wife of Jose A. Monte, passed away Wednesday, November 13, 2019 at St. Anne's Hospital after a short illness. Born in Mosteiros, St. Michael, Azores, a daughter of the late Joao & Diamantina (Camara) Pavao, she emigrated to Fall River in 1959, moving to Swansea in 1972.

She had worked for many years in the local textile industry, then worked at American Dryer for about 15 years until her retirement in 2005. She enjoyed cooking for her family, and gardening.

Besides her husband, of 60 years, she is survived by: six children, Al Monte (wife Karen) of Swansea, Victor Monte (companion Connie Marcelino) of Swansea, Elizabeth Carreiro (husband Bruce) of Somerset, Steve Monte of Somerset, Sandra Blanchette of Warwick, RI, and Tom Monte (wife Melissa) of Swansea; two brothers, John Pavao of North Fort Myers, FL and Joe Pavao of Bristol, RI; seventeen grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was also sister of the late Manuel Pavao and the late Mary Joe Miranda.

Her Funeral Mass was celebrated on Monday, November 18th, in St. John of God Church in Somerset followed by her committal at Notre Dame Cemetery, Fall River.
