Maria "Olinda" Soares, 83, of Fall River, wife of the late Manuel R. Soares, passed away peacefully at the Catholic Memorial Home on November 28, 2019 after a brief illness. Born in Nordeste, St. Michael, Azores, she was a daughter of the late Veriato DeSousa Frias and the late Marianna (deJesus) Teixeira. She was a homemaker who loved to cook and bake for her loving family. Olinda also enjoyed singing, dancing, gardening, listening to music, especially Bohemian Rhapsody, Meatloaf, and her favorite singer, Amalia Rodrigues, and traveling to such places as Canada, Bermuda, and Hershey Park in Pennsylvania. Olinda was extremely proud of her accomplishment of becoming an American Citizen. She leaves: her children, Natalie Melo and her husband, David, Connie Raposo and her husband, John, Frank Soares and his companion, Kristin Cabral, Joseph Rebelo (late-wife, Cidalia), all of Fall River, Eduardo Soares and his life-partner, James Kenyon, of Tolland, Connecticut, Manuel F. Soares and his wife, Marylou, of East Providence, Rhode Island, and Angie Lasater (late husband, Dr. Thomas Lasater) of Swansea; eight grandchildren, Joey Rebelo, Melissa Afonso, Michael Rebelo, Jeff Rebelo, Josh Melo, Felicia Melo, Brianna Soares, and Jaylyn Soares; seven great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Olinda was the mother of the late Joao DeSousa Soares and the grandmother of the late Blayke Jordan Soares, who passed too soon and for whom she always had a special place in her heart. She was also the sister of the late Guilherme Sousa Frias, Horacio Teixeira, Maria Amelia DeSousa Teixeira, Maria Lucia Frias Couto, Maria Silvinia Frias, Mary Dispirito Santo Frias, Olilia Teixeira, and Felicio Teixeira. Her Funeral Mass was celebrated on Tuesday, December 3rd, in St. Michael Church followed by her committal at St. Patrick Cemetery.
