Obituary

Maria Olivia Silva, 99, of Beacon Falls, Connecticut, formerly of Fall River, passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 5, 2025 at Waterbury Hospital. She was the loving wife of the late Manuel S. Silva. Born in Santo Antonio alem Capelas, St. Michael, Azores, she was the daughter of the late Jacinto Barbosa and Georgina (Viveiros) Barbosa.

Prior to her retirement, she worked as a sewing machine operator in the local textile industry for many years. An accomplished cook and a very talented seamstress, she also loved gardening, family get-togethers, especially Thanksgiving, and simply spending quality time with her family. Most notably, Maria was a devout Catholic, faithfully attended Mass and prayed the rosary daily.

She is survived by her loving children, Mary Lou Smith (late husband, Robert N. Smith) of Beacon Falls, Luis G. de Silva (Wendy Wong de Silva), of Potomac, MD, Mary Angel Silva of Fall River, and Paul M. Silva (wife, Shannon Silva) of Swansea, MA; her seven grandchildren, Amanda Smith, Neil Smith, Thomas Silva, Meaghan Silva, Rachel W. de Silva, Lauren W. de Silva, and Nathan W. de Silva; four great-grandchildren, Lia Beleznay, Sebastian Smith, Charlotte Silva, and Grayson Silva ; her brother, Artur Barbosa of St. Michael, Azores; her sister Vidalia Baldaia of Ontario, Canada; and many nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Maria Almeida, Antonio Arruda, Jose Arruda, Laurinda Melo, and Louis Arruda.

Her Funeral Mass was celebrated on Saturday, October 11th, at St. Michael's Church followed by her committal at St. Patrick Cemetery both in Fall River. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Maria's Memory to: Bristol Aging and Wellness (Meal delivery program), 1 Father Devalles Blvd #8, Fall River, MA, 02723.
