Maria P. DaSilva, 89, of Fall River, widow of Jose DaSilva passed away peacefully on Tuesday at Charlton Memorial Hospital. Born in St. Michael, Azores, she was the daughter of the late Joao P. and Mariana (Costa) Duarte. A homemaker, she enjoyed cooking, sewing, gardening, and taking care of her pet birds. A devout Catholic, she also enjoyed watching Mass on the television. But most importantly, Maria's pride and joy in life was her family. She leaves her children, Belmira Silva and her husband Eduardo of Somerset, Anna Ponte and her husband John of Swansea, Fatima Fragata, Joao, Stephen, and Joseph M. DaSilva and his wife Sandy of Fall River; sixteen grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren, her brothers, Manuel P. Duarte and his wife Belmira and Silvino P. Duarte and his wife Odette of Fall River; two sister-in-laws, Conceicao Duarte and Joanna Duarte; and many nieces and nephews. She was also the mother of the late Jose DaSilva and sister of the late Joao P. Duarte, Artur P. Duarte, Ilda Raposo, Jose P. Duarte, Hermino P. Duarte, and Augostinho P. Duarte. Her Funeral Mass was celebrated on Monday, March 27th in St. Anthony of Padua Church followed by her committal at St. Patrick Cemetery.
