Maria P. (Pereira) Novo, age 91, passed away on Friday, February 1, 2013, at the St. Anne's Hospital in Fall River. She was the widow of Jose Novo. Born in Lisbon, Portugal, she was a daughter of the late Jose Caetano Pereira and the late Maria do Rosario Pereira. A naturalized citizen of the United States, she has resided in Fall River for many years. Maria was a communicant of Espirito Santo Church and a member of the Holy Rosary Sodality. She was also a parishioner of the former Our Lady of Health Church on Cambridge Street. In addition to several nieces and nephews in Portugal, she is survived by her close friends and neighbors, who cared for her as family; Ruth Frizado, Lurdes Farias, Arola Ferreira, Fatima Costa, Liberia Farias and Sam Therrien. Her funeral Mass was celebrated on Tuesday, February 5, 2013 in Espirito Santo Church, She was laid to rest at Notre Dame Cemetery on Stafford Road.
