Maria P. Resendes, 90, of Fall River, widow of Venancio T. Resendes, died Monday, June 16, 2008 at Highlander Nursing Home after a short illness. Born in Agua Retorta, St. Michael, Azores, daughter of the late Viturinho & Francisca (Pacheco) Marques, she emigrated to Fall River in 1967. She was employed in the local textile industry at Santoro for 13 years, retiring in 1980, and was a member of ACTWU. Maria enjoyed caring for her family. Survivors include: sons, Jose and Venancio Resendes of Fall River; daughter, Maria (& her husband Manuel) Sardinha of St. Petersburg, FL; brother, Francisco Marques of Fall River; grandchildren, Casey Miranda, Kenny Resendes, Kristal Medeiros; great grandchildren, Brenden & Brady Miranda; several nieces and nephews. She was also sister of the late Manuel, Luis, Gualdino & Jose Marques, Maria Furtado, Rosa Calmera, Adelino Resendes, Maria Almeida Resendes & Gloria Marques. Her Funeral Mass, celebrated by Father Brian Albino, was offered on Thursday (6/19) in St Anthony of Padua Church followed by committal services at St. Patrick Cemetery. Pallbearers were Manuel, Alberto, Liberto, Gil and Manuel Marques and Jose Resendes.
