Maria C. Resendes, 87, of Fall River, passed away on Thursday, November 25. Born in Agua Retorta, St. Michael, Azores, daughter of the late Manuel Resendes, Jr. and Maria (Carreiro) Resendes. She was a hand sewer at Chesterfield Dress. An active parishioner of St. Anthony of Padua Church, she belonged to the Holy Rosary Society. Survivors include brothers, Norberto Resendes and John Resendes of Fall River, Virginio Resendes (wife – Teresa) of Sao Paulo, Brazil, Manuel Resendes (wife – Idalina) of Lisbon, Portugal and David Resendes (wife – Luisa) of Toronto, Canada; a sister, Luisa Raposo (husband – Venancio) of Fall River; and several nieces, nephews, aunts and cousins. She was also sister of the late Jose Resendes and Antero Resendes. On Monday, November 29, friends and family gathered for a funeral Mass in St. Anthony of Padua Church. After the service, pallbearers Frank Resendes, Arthur Resendes, Joseph Medeiros, Manuel Papoula, Jose Cabral, and Venancio Raposo, brought Maria to her final resting place in Notre Dame Cemetery.
