Obituary

Maria Adelaide (deFaria) Soares, widow of the late Francisco F. Soares, passed away peacefully at home, on Monday, March 2, 2026, surrounded by her family. Born in Feteira, Faial, Azores, she was the daughter of the late Manuel A. deFaria and the late Maria E. (Silva) deFaria.

Maria worked in the garment industry for many years and was a member of the Amalgamated Clothing Workers of America (ACWA) Union. Before retiring, she worked at Eagle Pond Rehabilitation & Living Center in South Dennis, Massachusetts. She commuted from Fall River to Cape Cod daily. She and her coworkers would hop in a caravan and make the trek daily. These long drives were some of her best memories. They consisted of laughter, tears and frequent stops for coffee along the way. She was a favorite of the residents at Eagle Pond. She loved her 21 years at Eagle Pond and was sad to retire.

She was a true Portuguese Grandmother. She loved to cook, sew, crochet and to host her family. She enjoyed watching of "O Preço Certo." She also took comfort in connecting with friends on Facebook and playing her favorite card game, Sueca. Most notably, she cherished the time she spent with her family.

She leaves her children: Helia Mongiat and her husband Joseph, of Plymouth, Feliciano Soares, of Fall River and Elizabeth Soares, of Fall River; grandchildren: Hailey and Owen; siblings: Fernanda Furtado and her husband Jose, of Fall River, and Eduindo deFaria and his wife Amelia, of Fall River; and many nieces and nephews. She also leaves many friends and family throughout the world that she spoke to on a daily basis.

Relatives and Friends are invited to attend her Calling Hours to be held in Silva-Faria Funeral Home, 730 Bedford Street, Fall River, on Friday, March 6, 2026, from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm.

Her Funeral will be held on Saturday, March 7, 2026, at 9:00 am from the Silva-Faria Funeral Home, 730 Bedford St, Fall River, with a Mass of Christian Burial to be offered in Holy Trinity Parish at 10:00 am. Committal Service and interment will follow in St. Patrick Cemetery.
