It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Maria L Sousa, beloved mother, sister, and grandmother who left us on November 13, 2024, at the age of 89. Lina, as she was known, was born in Sao Miguel, Azores, to the late Maria and Manuel Sousa. She emigrated to the United States in 1968 and has been a resident of the Fall River and Westport area for the last 56 years.

She is preceded in death by her beloved siblings, Jose Sousa, Joao Sousa, Manuel Sousa, and Maria Raposa. She is survived by: her sister, Margarida Feteira of Attleboro; three daughters, Lucia Amaral (husband Jose) from Texas, Maria Sousa from West Warwick, and Zelia Almeida (husband John) from Coventry; five grandchildren, Matthew Amaral, Alicia Sousa, Justin Amaral (wife Aunna), Angie Almeida, and Michelle Almeida; twelve great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Maria treasured the moments shared with her family and found joy in music and watching Spanish novellas. Alongside her love for gardening, she was passionate about drawing and crafting beautiful crepe paper flowers by hand. Her loss is mourned deeply by everyone who knew and loved her. Maria's memory will live on in the hearts of her family, a cherished presence forever.

Her Funeral Mass was celebrated on Saturday, November 16th, in St. Anthony of Padua Church followed by her committal at Oak Grove Cemetery.
