Maria Jose Sousa, 76, of Fall River, wife of Jose Torres Sousa, passed away on Saturday, June 15, 2019, at Fall River HealthCare. Born in Arrifes, Ponta Delgada, St. Michael, Azores, daughter of the late Manuel Medeiros Teves and the late Maria dos Santos (Almeida) Teves, she lived in Fall River most of her life.

She was employed in the local textile industry for about 24 years until her retirement in 2004, and was also a member of the International Ladies Garment Workers Union (ILGWU, now UNITE). Throughout her life Maria enjoyed music, flowers and reading; and she was very proud to have become a naturalized U.S. citizen in 2001.

Besides her husband, of 49 years, she is survived by: three children, Susana M. Lincoln of Clearwater, FL, Ana M. Cook (husband Justin) of Linthicum, MD, and Mario J. Sousa (wife Rachel) of Fall River; four brothers, Manuel Teves of Westport, Jose Teves of Alberta, Canada, Dinarte Teves of Alberta, Canada, and Joao Teves of Westport; seven grandchildren, Grant, Nicholas, Maximus, Zachary, Tiffany, Connor and Alexander; a great granddaughter, Holly Grace; and several nieces & nephews.

Her Funeral Mass was celebrated on Friday, June 21st, in Espirito Santo Church followed by her committal at St. Patrick Cemetery.
