Mariana P. (Ferreira) Serpa, age 93, passed away on July 26, 2008, at the Highlander Nursing Home in Fall River, following an extended illness. She was the beloved wife of Berino P. Serpa of Fall River, with whom she celebrated seventy four years of marriage. Born on the island of St Michael in the Azores, she was a daughter of the late Agusto Ferreira and the late Mariana (Bernardo) Ferreira. After residing in St. Michael for forty eight years, she moved to Fall River in 1963 and was employed for many years in the garment trade of Fall River as a sewing machine operator at the former Darwood Manufacturing Company until her retirement. Mariana was a communicant of Holy Name Church in Fall River and was a member of the Amalgamated Clothing & Textile Workers Union. She enjoyed gardening, knitting, crocheting, watching wrestling, giving to various charities, passing time on the porch watching people & cars go by, and most of all spending time with her family. In addition to her husband, Berino, she is survived by two sons, Ceaser Serpa (his companion Geraldine), and Lucio Serpa (his wife Judite), both of Fall River, her only grandchild, Nancy Estrella (her husband Joe), two great grandchildren, Michaela & Dylan, and several nieces and nephews. She was also the sister of the late Francelina Soares. Her funeral Mass was celebrated in Holy Name Church, Pallbearers Joe Estrella, Horace Almeida, Gaudino DaMaso, Gabriel Sousa and Carlos Resendes brought Mariana to her final resting place at St Patrick Cemetery.
