Obituary

Mariano "Varao"  P. Cabral, 85, of Fall River, husband of Olga (Gaspar) Cabral, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Saturday, March 3, 2018. Born in the village of Agua Retorta, St.Michael, Azores, he was a son of the late Manuel "Varao" Pimentel and Candida (Tomas) Cabral. From the time of his arrival here in the United States until his retirement, Mariano worked for Plymouth Rubber in Canton, MA. A member of the Republican Club, he also enjoyed playing cards, dominos, and making his own wine. He was a staunch promoter of education, strongly encouraging his children and grandchildren to be the best they can be. A kind and generous man, Mariano would give the "shirt off his back" for anyone in need. Besides his wife of  sixty years, he leaves: his children, Carl M. Cabral of Rhode Island, Mario J. Pimentel of the Azores, Anna M. Borges (late husband John) of Dartmouth, Walter Cabral and his companion Shana Sweeney and Zita M. Leal and her husband Delio of Fall River; eight grandchildren, John L. Borges,Jr., Paulo Borges, Christopher Leal, Chad Cabral, Corey Cabral, Briana Leal, Gabrielle Cabral, and Christian Sweeney; four great-grandchildren, Christopher Leal, Jr., Adrianna Leal, Alondra Sodarith, and Madelyn Borges; two brothers, John Pimentel and his wife Ana of Arizona and Luis Pimentel (late wife Merciana) of Fall River; and many nieces and nephews. He was also the brother of the late Manuel Cabral and Maria C. Teixeira. His Funeral Mass was celebrated on Thursday, March 8th, in St. Anthony of Padua Church followed by his committal at Oak Grove Cemetery.
