Mario Silva, 78, of President Ave. (formerly of Plain Street), passed away Friday after a brief illness. Husband of Orides Da Silva, with whom he shared 53 years of marriage. Born in Agua Retorta, son of the late Antonio and Maria (Furtado) Silva. Mario owned and operated the former Silva & Teves Construction Company. A founder of the Don Carlos Club, he also belonged to the St. Anthony Band Club and the former Teofilio Braga Club. Well known for his musical talents in singing and writing Portuguese music, he contributed much of this talent to fundraisers such as Holy Ghost feasts throughout the country and other Portuguese communities around the world. Beloved father of Elizabeth Coogan (husband - Tom), Mario DaSilva (wife - Lisa), Robert DaSilva (fiancée - Karen Eng) and Paul DaSilva; grandfather of Graham, Alex and Madison Coogan, Mitchell, Liam and Kayla DaSilva; brother of Lidia Resendes, Lourdes Cabral and Albertina Moniz. He also leaves many nieces, nephews, and god-children. His funeral Mass was celebrated on October 7, 2014 in St. Anthony of Padua Church followed by his committal at Notre Dame Cemetery.
