Marjorie Mary Thurston, 97, of Portsmouth, Rhode Island, wife of the late Raymond G. Thurston, passed away peacefully on Monday, March 18, 2024 at Charlton Memorial Hospital following a brief illness. Born in Fall River, she was a daughter of the late George McCoomb and the late Helen (Stapelton) McCoomb.
Prior to her retirement she was the owner and hostess of the former Sportsman's Restaurant in Island Park for many years. An avid reader, she also loved cooking, baking, summer cookouts, and traveling to such places as London, Bermuda, Puerto Rico, and Hawaii.
She leaves her loving children, Suzanne Raposa and R. Gerald Thurston and his wife, Janice (Souza), both of Portsmouth, Rhode Island; her two grandchildren, Shannon R. Raposa and Thomas H. Raposa, also of Portsmouth; and several nieces and nephews. She was also the sister of the late Anne Jackson and the late Dorothy Dunne.
Her funeral arrangements were private.
