Mary T. (Furtado) Affonso, 80, of Tiverton, passed away peacefully at home on Monday. Wife of Alberto M. Affonso, with whom she shared 59 years of marriage. Born in Fall River, daughter of the late Manuel V. & Laura (Costa) Furtado. A graduate of Sacred Heart Academy, class of 1947, she moved to Tiverton in 1962 having worked for its school department as an administrative assistant for over 20 years. Besides her husband Alberto, Mary is survived by a son, Al Affonso (wife Sandra) of No. Dartmouth, daughter, Mary Turkington (husband Van) of No. Attleboro, grandchildren, Michael Affonso, Elizabeth Affonso, Christine Turkington and Jessica Turkington and several nieces and nephews. Funeral was held on Wednesday, December 24th, 2008 in St. Theresa's Church, celebrated by Rev. Peter J. Andrews. Pallbearers were Joe Grace, Bill Grace, Frank Costa, Manny Medeiros, Frank Medeiros and Paul Affonso. Interment was in Notre Dame Cemetery.
