Obituary

Mary (Vasconcellos) Andrade, age 98, formerly of Tower Street in Fall River, passed away on May 1, 2008, at the Catholic Memorial Home in Fall River. She was the widow of the late Joseph Andrade. Born in the village of Bretanha, on the island of St. Michael in the Azores, she was a daughter of the late Joseph Costa Vasconcellos and the late Justina (Diogo) Vasconcellos. After residing in the Azores for seven years, she moved to Fall River in 1916. A Naturalized Citizen of the United States, she was employed at the former Auerbach Bathrobe Corporation as a Sewing Machine Operator for forty five years until her retirement in 1972 and was a member of the Amalgamated Clothing & Textile Workers Union. Mary was a parishioner of the former St. Elizabeth's Church in Fall River and a communicant of the Holy Trinity Parish Church, also in Fall River. Surviving family members include her son, Joseph Andrade of Fall River, her daughter, Lorraine Connell of Westport, MA, a brother, Raymond Vasconcellos of Westport, two sisters, Iria Benevides of Westport, and Helen Amore of Fall River, nine grandchildren, seventeen great grandchildren, a great great granddaughter, and many nieces and nephews. She was also the mother of the late Dorothy Andrade, grandmother of the late Barry Connell, and a sister of the late Manuel Vasconcellos, Joseph Vasconcellos, Adelino Vasconcellos and John Vasconcellos. A private funeral Mass was offered at Holy Trinity Parish Church. Interment was in Notre Dame Cemetery.
