Obituary

Mary Araujo, 92, of Fall River, formerly of Somerset, wife of Edward Araujo, passed away peacefully on Monday, January 22, 2024 at the Catholic Memorial Home following a long illness. Born in Ponta Delgada, St. Michael, Azores, she was a daughter of the late Manuel Martin and Mary (Costello) Martin.

Prior to her retirement she worked at the Catholic Memorial Home as a Certified Nursing aide for many years, a job she truly enjoyed. She loved cooking and baking, especially her own unique recipes for Portuguese stuffing, crabs, chourico and peppers, and butterhorns. A true "homebody", she also enjoyed crocheting and simply spending quality time at home with her family and her cherished dog, "Puffy". Most notably, Mary was a devout Catholic who faithfully attended Mass and willingly took the role of caregiver for several of her loved ones over the years.

Besides her husband of sixty-eight years, she leaves her loving daughter, Sandra A. Poirier and her husband, Mark, of Seekonk; her two grandchildren, Jacob Poirier and Corinne Spillane; her brother, John Martin (late wife, Hilda) of Vernon, CT; and many nieces and nephews. She was also the sister of the late Phyllis, Mary, Linda, Vicki, Marion, Louie, and Joe.

Following a private cremation, Her Memorial Funeral Mass was held on Tuesday, February 6th, at St. John of God Church followed by the committal of her ashes at St. Patrick's Cemetery, both in Somerset. In lieu of flowers, kindly consider a donation in Mary's memory to: St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St Jude PL, Memphis, TN 38105-9959.
