Obituary

Mary Jane Camara, 92, widow of Deacon Manuel H. Camara, Jr., passed away peacefully at her home on Tuesday, February 23, 2016. Born in Fall River and a lifelong resident, she was the last survivor of the seventeen children of the late Joseph and Adelaide (Sousa) Carvalho. For four decades, Mary was employed by the St. Anthony of Padua Federal Credit Union, mostly as its Treasurer and Manager. Previously, she was the Executive Assistant to the President of the Globe Manufacturing Co. and had also worked at Firestone. A lifelong parishioner of St. Anthony of Padua Church, where she was not only a daily communicant, but served as a Eucharistic Minister and a retreat leader for both the youth and adults as well as those preparing for marriage. A lay member of the Holy Union Sisters, she and her late husband loved God with all their hearts and were very active in the Cursillo and Catholic Charismatic Renewal movements as well as in the diaconal community of the Fall River Diocese. Mrs. Camara also served as the Treasurer of the St. Vincent de Paul Society and the Fall River Community Soup Kitchen for many years. She is survived by her three children, Claudia Moniz (husband-Mozart) of Hyannis; H. David Camara (wife-Patrice) of Portsmouth and Paul Camara (wife-Susan) of Providence, eight grandchildren; Peter, Damian, David, Joel, Joshua, Jacob, John Paul and Anne Mary, eleven great grandchildren, Morgan, Mason, Andrew, Eric, Samantha, Dylan, Eli, Lucy, Isaiah, Olivia and Henry, and many nieces, nephews and godchildren. Her Funeral Mass was con-celebrated on Monday, February 29th, in St Anthony of Padua Church followed by her committal at Notre Dame Cemetery.
