Mary Clotilde "Cora" (Medeiros) Raposa, formerly of Bayview Avenue in the Ocean Grove neighborhood of Swansea, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 13, 2010, in West Palm Beach, Florida. She was in her 96th year. Cora wed Manuel T. Raposa and enjoyed sixty-seven years of marriage until her husband passed away in 2003. Born on the island of St. Michael in The Azores, she was a daughter of the late Manuel Medeiros and the late Adelaide (Vieira) Medeiros. In 1915, at the age of 13 months, her family came to the United States and settled in the city of Fall River. The late Senator Mary Fonseca, a neighbor and childhood friend, gave her the nickname Cora to avoid any confusion between the two Marys. Employed in the once great textile trade of this city, she worked as a tireless seamstress in the manufacturing of fine curtains & draperies for over 20 years at the former Louis Hand Mfg, until her retirement in 1976. If you lived in the area, you most likely had curtains made by her or knew someone who did. One of her favorite pastimes was shopping with her two sisters, who together were known as "The Three Musketeers". Her pride and joy was her family and she will always be fondly remembered for her rice pudding, which was the highlight of any holiday. Cora's immaculate home was always the center of activity for her extended family. In later years, she became a voracious reader. Danielle Steele could not write fast enough for her reading habit. Her gentle presence will be missed by all that knew her. She is survived by her son Robert Raposa and his partner Donald Bolduc of Fall River and Port Charlotte, FL, and her daughter Terry Velozo and her husband Gerald of West Palm Beach, FL. Cora was the adored grandmother to Gerald Velozo, Jr., and his wife Suzanne of Assonet, Scott Velozo and his partner Stephen Mooney of West Palm Beach, Donald Velozo and his wife Lynne of Buzzards Bay, Randi Arruda and her husband George of Westport. Her great-grandchildren include Milton J. Brouillard III and his wife Brianna, Elizabeth Perry and her husband Andrew, Chelsey Velozo, Jordan Velozo, Cody Velozo and Nick Velozo, a great-great grandson, Jacoby Brouillard, a sister, Billie Kielor, and several nieces and nephews. She was also the sister of the late Fannie Kazen and the late John Medeiros. On Saturday, February 20, friends and family gathered for a Funeral Mass at Notre Dame Church. Pallbearers Gerald, Donald, Cody and Scott Velozo, Milton Brouillard III, and Nick Velozo, brought Cora to rest at Notre Dame Cemetery Mausoleum.
