Mary S. Massa, age 89, passed away in Providence on Wednesday, March 13, 2013, at Home & Hospice Care of Rhode Island, following a brief illness. She was the long time widow of Arthur B. Massa and the daughter of the late Manuel da Silva and Francisca (do Rego) Silva. Born in Fall River, she then moved to her parent's native village of Arrifes, St. Michael, Azores at the age of two where she remained until 1950. Mary was employed for many years as a folder at the Shelburne Shirt Company in Fall River until her retirement in 1985 and was a member of the Amalgamated Clothing and Textile Workers Union. She owned and managed residential rental property in Fall River and considered her tenants and neighbors extended family. Mary enjoyed gardening and the company of her family and friends. She was a communicant of Espirito Santo Church in Fall River and held a strong religious conviction in her faith. Mary was devoted to her daughter and son-in-law, Linda Massa Silva and Duarte Silva, of Fall River. She leaves three brothers, David da Silva and Liberal D. Silva both of Fall River, and Josue da Silva Almeida of Arrifes, St. Michael, Azores, and many nieces and nephews. She was also the sister of the late Manuel do Rego Silva and Gabriel da Silva. Her Funeral Mass was celebrated on Monday, March 18, in Espirito Santo Church followed by her committal at Notre Dame Cemetery.
