Mary S. Silvestre, 88, of Somerset, passed peacefully at home on Saturday surrounded by her daughters. Widow of Manuel B. "Sorky" Silvestre. Born in Fall River, daughter of the late John A. and Mary (Sousa) Silva. For most of her life she worked in her family's business, starting with her father's North Star Bakery in Fall River and then with her husband at his business, Sorky's Bakery Products. She later worked as a cafeteria worker in the Somerset School System. An avid golfer, she was an original member of Green Valley Country Club in Portsmouth where she was club champion three times and recorded three holes in one. Mary was honored annually as a member of the first class of the "Legends" of Green Valley. She also enjoyed knitting, crafts, dancing and duckpin bowling. She was mother of Linda Hill of Somerset and Sandra Silvestre of Richmond, VA; sister of Anibal A. Silva of Somerset and the late Manuel, Joseph, John and Leonard Silva and twins, Anita Alves and Anna Maiato. She also leaves several nieces, nephews and godchildren. Her Funeral Mass, celebrated by Father Manuel Ferreira, was offered on Wednesday (11/28) St. John of God Church in Somerset. Her final arrangements were private.
