Mary Lu
Viveros
d. Mar 10, 2024
Mary Lu Viveros, 81, of Fall River, wife of David A. Viveros, passed away on Sunday, March 10, 2024, at Kimwell Nursing and Rehabilitation after a short illness. Born in Fall River, she was a daughter of the late Francis Curt and the late Belmira (Michael) Curt.
A graduate of the former Mount Saint Mary's Academy, she earned a certificate in accounting and was employed as an accounting clerk at the former Fall River Gas Co. for many years, retiring in the mid-1990s. In her younger days Mary Lu participated in beauty pageants, competing for Miss Fall River, and was named Miss Congeniality. She was also musically inclined and became an accomplished bass fiddle player.
She met her husband-to-be and soulmate on a blind date and the rest was history – jitterbugging and swing dancing through their youth (often at the Roseland Ballroom in Taunton) – as they forged a life of enduring love, and devotedly raised a family whom she cherished, especially her grandchildren. Over the years, Mary Lu enjoyed numerous cruises to Bermuda with her husband, and particularly enjoyed beaches everywhere, from the local area of Newport to her favorite, Siesta Key in Florida.
Besides her husband of 59 years, she is survived by: Derek P. Viveros (wife Joi) of Tiverton, RI, and Brett D. Viveros (wife Kimberley) of Taunton, MA; a sister, Anne Marie Dzialo of Fall River; three grandchildren, Justin, Jaclyn, and Grayson; and several nieces and nephews.
Following a private cremation. Her Memorial Funeral Mass was celebrated on Wednesday, March 20th, in Holy Name Church followed by a private committal of her cremains at Notre Dame Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in Mary Lu's memory to the Joslin Diabetes Center, One Joslin Place, Boston, MA 02215-5306 (pre-printed contribution envelopes available at the funeral home), 617-309-2412, go to www.joslin.org, or contact philanthropy@joslin.harvard.edu.
