Matilde Diogo Miranda, 100, of Fall River, widow of Joseph Cordeiro Miranda, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, September 3, 2016. Born and raised in Bretanha, St Michael, Azores, daughter of the late Antonio Medeiros Diogo & the late Mamie Elizabeth (Dooley) Diogo, she moved to Fall River in 1956, and had also lived in California for about 6 years (during the late 70s and early 80s). A hand sewer in the local garment industry, she worked at the former Anderson-Little and was a former member of ACTWU (now UNITE). A longtime, active parishioner of Espirito Santo Church, she was a member of its Holy Rosary Society and its Prayer Group. Beloved mother of Donaria "Donna" Miranda of Fall River & Baldwin Miranda of Florida, and the late Leonardo Miranda; devoted grandmother of Atty. Timothy Miranda of San Diego, CA, Joseph Miranda of NY, Hannah Kearns (husband Peter) of Somerville, and the late David Cordeiro Miranda; and sister of Gilda Cabral, Elvina Arruda & Lubelia Tavares all of Fall River, and the late Maria Pavao, Leonor Rego, Emiliana Carvalho, Odilia Costa, and Jaime & Raul Diogo. She is also survived by many nieces & nephews. The family wishes to express their gratitude to Dr. Jose Monteiro for his compassion and excellent care. Her Funeral Mass was celebrated on Saturday, September 10th, in Espirito Santo Church followed by her committal at St Patrick Cemetery.
