Maurice A. Desmarais, age 64, of Swansea, MA, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, April 26, 2009, while vacationing in the Dominican Republic. He was the beloved husband of Carol E. (Vital) Desmarais. Born in Fall River, he was the son of the late Maurice Desmarais and the late Florence Desmarais. A resident of Swansea for many yeas, he was a veteran of the United States Army. After working for many years as a distributor for Archway he established Proven Power Equipment, a small engine repair shop located on State Road in Westport, MA. Together with his wife, Maurice enjoyed traveling in his antique automobiles and camping. For many years he was an avid country western dancer. In addition to his wife, Carol, he leaves two daughters, Renee Manso of Fall River, and Stacy Rezendes of Somerset, a sister, Rochelle Desmarais, also of Somerset, and two grandchildren. A Funeral Mass was celebrated on May 9, 2009, at St Francis of Assisi Church in Swansea. Pallbearers were David Vital, James Vital, Gilbert Lavoie, Linwood Cohen, Peter Diaz and Edward Moniz.
