Michael A. Costa, age 66, passed away following a long illness on Sunday, October 14, 2012, surrounded by his family at the V. A. Medical Center in Boston, Massachusetts. He was the loving husband of Paulette (Labouliere) Costa of Fall River. Born on the island of St. Michael in the Azores, he was a son of the late John Costa and the late Mary (Roies) Costa. After residing in the Azores for three years after his birth, the Costa Family emigrated to Tiverton, Rhode Island in 1949. Raised in Tiverton, Michael was naturalized as an American Citizen, and served his adopted country as a Sergeant in the Military Police of the United States Air Force. He was a recipient of the Air Force Commendation Medal in addition to numerous other awards for his service in Vietnam. Employed as a carpet installer for most of his life, Michael operated his own business, D & L Carpet, and also worked for thirteen years as an independent contractor for Sears & Roebuck Co. In addition to Paulette, his wife of 44 years, Mike was the beloved father of David M. Costa, and wife, Jennifer, of Swansea, MA, and Lisa M. Harbach, and husband, Richard, of Tiverton. He was the proud grandfather of Adam Lavoie, Matthew Lavoie and Jake Costa, and the brother of Joseph Costa and Dolores Roies of Tiverton, RI, John Costa of Fall River, and the late Manuel Costa. Michael also leaves several nieces and nephews. His Funeral Mass was celebrated on Thursday, October 18, in Saints Peter and Paul Parish at Holy Cross Church followed by his committal with military honors at the Notre Dame Cemetery Mausoleum.
