Michael J. "Smudgie" Andrade,Sr., 58, of Fall River, died Thursday at Crawford Nursing Home after an extended illness. A lifelong resident of Fall River and son of the late Frank and Otilia (Araujo) Andrade. He graduated B.M.C. Durfee High School in 1967, worked for the school at Alumni Field and was one of the first employees of The Big Mamie when it first arrived in the city. For almost 20 years he worked for Aetna Life & Casualty Ins. Co. until his disability in 1985. He studied Criminal & Civil Law at BCC, and spent 9 years as the Constable of Fall River. Memberships included; The Fall River Rod & Gun Club, Gun Owners Action League, National Rifle Assoc., Mass. Police Assoc., and lifetime member of Honorary Deputy Sheriff's Assoc. He enjoyed hunting and fishing with his brothers and friends. Survivors include son, Michael J. Andrade, of Fall River, brothers, James C. Andrade and his wife Lisa A. Andrade of Somerset, Brian Andrade of Fall River, and Frank Paul Andrade of Fall River, sisters, Elizabeth Amaral of Fall River, Deborah Farias and husband Joseph of Tiverton, RI, and Madeline Andrade of Fall River, nephews, Aaron Andrade, Christopher Andrade, Christopher Amaral, Matthew Amaral, Michael Amaral, Richard Farias and Wayne Ludwin, Jr., Joshua Andrade and Frank Andrade,Jr., and nieces, Jennifer Andrade, Dawn Farias and Heather Farias. Funeral was held Tuesday, October 9th, in Espirito Santo Church. Pallbearers were Michael Andrade,Jr., Christopher Andrade, Aaron Andrade, Anthony Rego,Sr., Anthony Rego,Jr., and Jason Monroe. Interment Notre Dame Cemetery.
