Judge Michael G. Chadinha, age 66, of Swansea, Massachusetts, passed away unexpectedly at home on Tuesday, January 12, 2016. He was the husband of the late Susan (Franco) Chadinha. Born in Fall River, he was the son of the late George R. Chadinha and the late Hilda (Ferreira) Chadinha. Michael was a graduate of Bishop Stang High School and Southeastern Massachusetts University (now known as UMASS Dartmouth). After he enlisted in the United States Air Force Mike was stationed in Japan for most of his military service. Returning to Fall River upon his discharge, and while searching for employment, Michael learned of a pilot study in electronic court reporting to be conducted in Washington, DC. He was accepted into the program and upon completion was ranked as 9th in the country in competency. Judge Chadinha started his career in the judicial system as a court reporter while attending Suffolk Law School. He became an Assistant Clerk Magistrate in the Fall River District Court, prior to his appointment as Administrative Assistant to the Chief Justice of the District Court and concluded his career as a judge of the Workmen's Compensation Commission. In addition to his many duties, Michael was an instructor of law at both Anna Maria College and Curry College. Mike loved the outdoors, cooking on the grill, golfing, watching and/or coaching baseball, and especially enjoyed reading a good book in the company of his family on the sandy shores of Myrtle Beach. Surviving family members include two sons; Matthew Chadinha (wife-Jennifer) of Coatesville, PA, and Michael John Chadinha (wife-Heather) of Peterborough, NH; a daughter, Andrea Simoes (husband-Ricardo) of Swansea; a granddaughter, Olivia Rose Chadinha of Coatesville; step grandson, Eli Machen of Peterborough; a sister, Paula Tucker of Falmouth, MA; mother-in-law, Gilda (Medeiros) Franco and brother-in-law, Carlos Franco (wife-Kate), and several nieces and nephews. His Funeral Mass was celebrated on Tuesday, January 19th, in St. Anthony of Padua Church in Fall River, followed by his committal at Notre Dame Cemetery.
