Michael J. Farina, 89, of Riverside, RI, passed away on Friday, July 11, 2008, at the V A Medical Center in Providence. He was the husband of the late Anna M. (Giordano) Farina. Born in Barrington, RI, he was a son of the late Alfredo Farina and the late Rosina (Mancini) Farina. Residing in Barrington for most of his life, he was employed for many years with the former Eastern Home Builders of Barrington and was also a salesman with the Metropolitan Insurance Company. A Veteran of the United States Army, he served in the European and African Theaters of World War II assigned to the Medical Detachment of the 128th General Hospital. "Mike" was an avid golfer in his youth and was a member of the American Legion in Barrington. In his later years he enjoyed the company of his many friends at the Barrington Senior Citizens Center. Surviving family members include his two daughters, Deborah M. Cassady of Riverside, and Donna M. Silva of Somerset, MA, four grandchildren, Brian Bergeron of Portland, OR, Kimberly Provencal of Riverside, Michael Silva and Jessica Silva, both of Somerset, his great grandson Dylan, and many nieces and nephews. His siblings Alfred, Frederick, Adeline, Elenora, Violet, Louise and Mary preceded him in death. Michael was laid to rest with Military Honors at the Rhode Island Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Exeter, RI. At the request of Mr. Farina, his funeral arrangements were private.
