Michael Purcell, 73, of Lecanto, FL, husband of Patricia (Mendonca) Purcell, passed away surrounded by his loving family Sunday 9/9/12 at Brigham & Women's Hospital, Boston. Born and raised in Fall River, son of the late Martin & Helena (Valton) Purcell, he lived in Westport most of his life, moving to Florida in 1996. A US Army Nat'l Guard reservist during the Vietnam Era, he worked in the construction industry for many years, retiring in 1993. He was a member of the UA Local 51 Plumbers & Pipefitters; a member and past president of the S.E. MA Building Trades; and the Business Manager for UA Local 77 Plumbers & Pipefitters of New Bedford. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting & fishing – and also enjoyed a good game of poker. Besides his wife, with whom he was together for 47 years, he leaves: 7 children, Martin J. Purcell III & Guy M. Purcell (wife Laurie) both of Swansea, Jody Swist (husband George) & Shelly Robbins both of Westport, Lori Pacheco (husband Carl) of Fall River, Cindy DeMello (husband William) of Tiverton, and Miki Purcell (wife Serena) of W. Warwick, RI; 4 sisters, Edna Dennis & Josephine Machado both of Fall River, Elizabeth Kaliff of Westport, and Cynthia Costa of Somerset; 23 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; many nieces & nephews. Also father of the late Mark Swist; and brother of the late Martin & James Purcell. His funeral Mass was celebrated in St Anthony of Padua Church. He was laid to rest at St. Patrick Cemetery.
