Obituary

Nasib Shaker, 93, of Swansea, passed away Sunday at home. Husband of Ann (Sarantakis) Shaker to whom he was married for 58 years. Born in Fall River, son of the late Bshara and Salimy (Borkhoche) Shaker. After graduating from BMC Durfee High School, he became a pattern maker and attended RI School of Design. An Army veteran of WWII, he served in the European and African theaters. Following the service he graduated from Providence College and received his masters from Bridgewater. He then went on to teach English at Morton Middle School for 22 years. He had also received a law degree from the former Southeastern Massachusetts Law School in Fall River. A Fourth Degree Knight with the Knights of Columbus, he was also a member of the American Lebanese Veterans Association, Over the Hill Gang, Royal Travelers of Swansea and the Lebanon American Society. "Ney" enjoyed reading, writing poetry and singing. Beloved father of Charles N. Shaker, Ann Marie Ward and Susan Laraia; grandfather of Matthew Shaker, Stephanie, Carolyn, and Brian Ward, Steven and Catherine Laraia; brother of Marion Shaker, Emily Joseph and the late George, Joseph and Michael Shaker, Anna Kalil, Jennie Shea and Ruth Gabbour. He also leaves many nieces and nephews. His Funeral Mass was celebrated on Friday, March 25, in St. Anthony of the Desert Church followed by a committal service with military honors at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Swansea.
