Obituary

Norman W. Almeida, 83, of Swansea, husband of Jacqueline G. (Otis) Almeida, died Saturday 8/2/14 after an illness. Born in Fall River son of the late Virgil & Amelia (Carreira) Almeida, he lived in Swansea for the past 52 years. As proprietor of AIM Attachment Co. he manufactured and distributed machine parts in the textile industry for many years, retiring in the mid-2000s. As an active member and former officer of the Association for Retarded Citizens (ARC), he received numerous awards advocating for those with special needs. A Navy veteran during the Korean Conflict, he also served in the Coast Guard Auxiliary. He was a member of the Elks and the Knights of Columbus, as well as the Somerset Sportsman's Club and the Bowhunter's Association. An avid golfer, he was a member of FRCC, and a longtime officer of the Wampanoag Knight's golf league whose members will attest to his great cooking skills. Beloved father of Susan Almeida (husband Bill Menard) of Warwick, RI, and Norman Almeida of Fall River. Brother of the late Virgil E. & Joseph Almeida, he also leaves several nieces and nephews. His Funeral Mass was celebrated on Wednesday, August 6, in St Louis de France Church in Swansea followed by his committal and entombment at the Notre Dame Cemetery Mausoleum.
