Obituary

Norman A. Alves, 92, of Fall River, husband of Natalie (Nery) Alves, passed away on Thursday, August 29, 2024, at the Catholic Memorial Home, after an illness. Born in Fall River, he was a son of the late Anthony Alves and the late Eva (Duhamel) Alves.

A Fall River police officer for 33 years, retiring in the early 1990s, Norman was a member of the Massachusetts Police Association. A member of the Knights of Columbus, Fall River Council #86, since 1956, he was a Fourth-Degree member for 63 years. For many of those years, when he and his wife would winter in Florida, he enjoyed membership in the Ascension Council Knights of Columbus of Fort Myers Beach. Norman was an avid golfer, enjoyed participating in local bowling leagues for a number of years, and was known for his good sense of humor. He was also a U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean Conflict.

Besides his wife of 72 years, he is survived by: a son, Paul N. Alves of Fall River; a grandson, Christopher Alves (wife Kate); two great granddaughters, Charlotte and Kolette; and several nieces and nephews. Norman was predeceased by all his siblings, Lorraine Shoemaker, Rita Pacheco, and William Alves.
