Norman R. McCarthy, Jr., 69, of Westport, husband of Debra (Rebello) McCarthy, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 10, 2022 at Charlton Memorial Hospital after a long illness. Born in Fall River, he was a son of the late Norman R. McCarthy, Sr. and the late Ruth (Gill) Moore.
After graduating from B.M.C. Durfee High School and Southeastern Massachusetts University (SMU), he went on to earn his Juris Doctor degree from Southwestern Law School in Los Angeles, California before returning to Massachusetts to establish his own practices in Westport and Fall River.
Aside from being a devoted and beloved Husband, Father, and Grandfather, he was a proud American and Veteran of the United States Army and loved to discuss and debate politics. He also had passions for education, learning, and writing and did his best to instill his passion for education in his family and close friends.
Besides his wife of forty-seven years, he is survived by his beloved children, Norman McCarthy, III and his wife, Amy Beth, of Pawtucket, Rhode Island, Carolyn McCarthy and James McCarthy, both of Fall River, MA, and Erin Levesque and her husband, Derek, of Port Charlotte, Florida; his eight beautiful grandchildren, Skyla, Jace, Ava, Kalianna, Logan, Emmett, Bryson, and Rylan; his loving brothers, Russell McCarthy and wife, Diane, of Somerset, MA, Steven McCarthy and his wife, Filomena, of Swansea, MA, and his half-brother, Glenn Manchester of Florida; and many nieces and nephews. He was also the father of the late Shannon McCarthy and brother of the late Norma Pelletier and Cheryl Shuman.
His Funeral Service was held on Saturday, May 14th, in our Fall River Chapel followed by his committal at Notre Dame Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, kindly consider a donation in Norman's memory to: American Cancer Society, Centralized Memorial Processing Center, P.O. Box 1120, Framingham, MA 01701.
