Obituary

Olavo M. Cunha, 75, of Fall River, husband of Maria Cidalia (Raposo) Cunha, passed away Tuesday, August 29, 2017, at Brigham and Women's Hospital, Boston, after an illness. Born in Terceira, Azores, son of the late Jose Mendes da Cunha and the late Alvarina (Borges Leal) da Cunha, he emigrated to Fall River in 1968, at age 26.

His first job in the area was with Frito-Lay, then he worked for a time at Quaker Fabric, then Joan Fabric, then Anderson-Little, until starting employment in 1977 at White's of Westport, where he was inducted into their employee Hall Of Fame in 2005 – retiring after almost 30 years as a line cook. His interests were reading, camping, fishing, and spending time with his family.

Besides his wife, of 48 years, he is survived by: two children, Olavo R. Cunha and Elizabeth M. Martin (husband David) both of Fall River; a grandson, Brandon Rego; a sister-in-law, Aida da Cunha; several nieces and nephews. He was also a sibling of the late Jose M da Cunha, Jr., and of the late Maria de Lourdes Stevenson.

His Funeral Mass was celebrated on Saturday, September 2nd, in Espirito Santo Church followed by his committal at Notre Dame Cemetery.
