Otilia "Tillie" (Barboza) Hill, 87, of Chicago, IL, passed away Saturday morning, June 25th in Texarkana, TX. Wife of Harry Hill, Sr., she was born in Providence, RI, daughter of the late Manuel Barboza, Sr. and Mary (Teixeira) Barboza. She was the oldest of 15 children. During WWII, Tillie was an Air Raid Warden in Fall River (she walked through the neighborhoods at night making sure residents didn't have their lights on). After the war, she returned to school at the Girls Continuation School and studied nursing. Tillie trained as an LPN at the former Fall River General Hospital and her first job was at the former Taunton State Hospital. After meeting her husband, Harry, she moved to Chicago and raised a family. In 1967 Tillie returned to the workforce at Sears and Roebucks where she worked for 20 years. After retiring, she returned to school at Olive Harvey College and became certified as a Nursing Assistant. An active parishioner of St. Felicitas Church, where she was past president of their Ladies Guild, a Communion Minister, Minister of Care for the homebound and a receptionist in the Rectory. Tillie was also a lifetime member of The Knights of Peter Clavier Ladies Auxiliary, Court 181; a Den Mother for the Cub Scouts, where she organized a trip to Washington, DC and was also very active with her Block Club on Dorchester Street. Besides Harry, her husband of 63 years, she is survived by 3 children, DeBorah Hill of Douglasville, GA, Gerard and Kelvin Hill both of Chicago; 4 grandchildren, Jocinta Grigsby of Texas, Janelle Hill, Isaiah Hill and Kelvin Hill, Jr. all of Chicago; 9 siblings, Manuel Barboza Jr. of Swansea, Victor and John Barboza both of New Bedford, Joseph Barboza of Milwaukee, WI, Mary, Margaret and Penny Barboza, Rosemary Reagan and Anna McDermott, all of Fall River; several great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. Tillie was also mother of the late Harry Hill, Jr., and sister of the late George, Frank and Caroline Barboza, Marianna Dias, Christina Amaral and Peggy Richardson (half-sister). Her Funeral Mass was celebrated on Wednesday, July 6th, in St. Anthony of Padua Church followed by her committal at Notre Dame Cemetery.
