Obituary

Peter V. Lanzisera of Assonet passed away at Catholic Memorial Home on Friday May 6, 2011 after a long illness. He was the son of the late Adam and Celeste (Tricarico) Lanzisera. Born in New York City in 1923, he resided as a young boy in Providence, Rhode Island. He later moved with his family to Fall River where he spent many years prior to living in Assonet. He graduated from BMC Durfee High School where he was a standout on the school's Hilltoppers football team. He went on to play semi pro football with the New Bedford Whalers. He served in the US Army with the 9th Infantry Division at Camp Carson, CO. Peter retired from Verizon after more than 30 years of service. He was also a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America. Pete, as he was known to so many friends, was also a gifted wood carver. A communicant of Holy Rosary Parish, he was a member of Father Sullivan's Piccolinos, a boy's youth group established by the parish. He was also a member of the Over the Hill Gang. Peter is survived by a brother, I. Paul Lanzisera and his wife Rosemary of Fall River and three sisters. Marie Bevilacqua of Assonet, Barbara Trainor-Tessier and her husband William of Cotuit, MA and Cynthia Lee and her husband Bud of Assonet. He also leaves four nephews and six nieces. A committal service with military honors was held on Thursday, May 12, at the Assonet Burying Grounds in Assonet.
