Ralph Louis Tavares, 80, of Somerset, husband of Carolee (Couto) Tavares, passed away peacefully at Charlton Memorial Hospital on Sunday, April 5, 2020 after a long illness

Born in Fall River, he was a son of the late Antonio and Dora (Angelini) Tavares.

Mr. Tavares was a proud Veteran of the United States Air Force. Prior to his retirement he was an accountant  for the United States General Accounting Office for many years.  As a Mended Heart volunteer at Charlton Memorial Hospital, he was very instrumental in aiding and guiding cardiac patients during their stay. He was an avid Boston Red Sox fan and also enjoyed his daily walks, fishing, and reading.

Besides his wife of fifty-five years, he is survived by: his two children, John Tavares and his wife, Janet, of Taunton, and Beth Medeiros and her husband, Joseph, of Somerset; three grandchildren, Ryan, Alana, and Nolan; two sisters, Diane Tavares of Weymouth and Elizabeth Patricio and her husband, John "Jack" of Fall River; and several nieces and nephews. He was also the brother of the late Anthony Tavares.

Due to the COVID Pandemic, his arrangements were private. When the current crisis allows, his family is planning to celebrate his life with a Memorial Funeral Mass, the details of which will be announced here.
