Obituary

Ramiro Quental, 86, of Fall River, passed away on Thursday, August 22, 2024, at home surrounded by his family.  He was the husband of Maria L. (Pacheco) Quental. Born in Ponta Delgada, São Miguel, Azores, he was a son of the late Jose Quental and the late Cisaltina (Cordeiro) Quental.

Ramiro worked aboard the S.S. Carvalho Araújo as a carpenter for the Merchant Marines in Lisbon, Portugal and played semi-pro soccer for C.D. Santa Clara in Ponta Delgada, Portugal before emigrating to the United States in 1967, where he lived most of his life in Fall River. He worked in the construction industry until his retirement.

He was a player and member of Associação Académica of Fall River, the Liberal Club and Sport Lisboa Benfica Club of Lisbon, Portugal. Ramiro was an avid Benfica and Red Sox fan. He enjoyed fishing, Portuguese marching bands and spending time with family and friends, especially his grandchildren.

Besides his wife of 64 years, Ramiro is survived by: 4 children, Manny Quental of Westport, Anna Lopes (husband Peter) of Fall River, Alex Quental (wife Lisa) of Westport, and Jacqueline Lopes (husband John) of Fall River; 3 siblings, Adriana Barbosa, John Quental, and Antonio Quental all of Fall River; 8 grandchildren, 2 great granddaughters; and several nieces and nephews.

His Funeral Mass was celebrated on Tuesday, August 27th, in Good Shepherd Parish Church followed by his committal at Notre Dame Cemetery.
