Obituary

Raymond Reis, age 71, of Westport, MA, passed away unexpectedly at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, on Friday, February 12, 2010. He was the loving companion of Alice Lourenco, her daughter Elizabeth Nicholson and granddaughter Aleece Nicholson, all of Westport. Born on the island of Sao Miguel in the Azores, he was a son of the late Joseph I. dos Reis and the late Maria C. (Dias) Reis. Before immigrating to the United States he served in Angola with the Portuguese Army during the Portuguese Colonial War in Africa. Raymond was employed for many years in road construction, as a laborer, until his retirement in 2001, and was a member of the Massachusetts Laborers Union, Local 610. He was a member of the Academica Club in Fall River and a member of the Holy Ghost Beneficial Brotherhood of Rhode Island in East Providence. Surviving family members also includes two brothers, John Reis of Florida, and Jose J. Reis of Fall River, a sister, Mary Lou Fernandes of Westport, a niece and nephews. He was also the brother of the late Natalia Reis. On Thursday, February 18, 2010, friends and family gathered for a funeral Mass in St. Mary's Cathedral. After the service, pallbearers Kevin Reis, Michael Earl, Mickey Earl, Manny Mello, Michael O'Brien, and Eddie Fernandes brought Raymond to his final resting place in the Mausoleum at Notre Dame Cemetery on Stafford Road in Fall River.
