Rebecca
Janes
d. Mar 5, 2024
Rebecca "Becca" Janes, 73, of Westport, passed away on Tuesday, March 5, 2024. Born in Arlington, Virginia, she was a daughter of the late Henry Janes and the late Annabelle (Williams) Janes. She grew up in Maryland and eventually moved to New England where she continued to pursue her passion for art and raise a family.
Rebecca cared deeply for the people in her life. She was devoted to her loving husband of sixteen years, Michael Simcock. She cherished her children, Marion Moniz and her husband, Nicholas, of Somerset, and Morgan Hobart and his long-time companion, Gin Diehl, of Santa Fe, New Mexico. In recent years she became "Gramma" to two grandchildren, Wyatt Hobart-Diehl and Wesley Hobart-Diehl and she relished the role. She was always ready to read a book, sing a song, or do a craft. She was a loving sister to Sue Ellen Shay and her husband, Michael of Pennsylvania; and to one brother, Ray Janes of Maine; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Rebecca was dedicated to her career as a therapist. Her dedication to helping others impacted many clients over her years of practice. She was a very gifted artist working in various mediums throughout her life including painting, sculpting, poetry and creating stained glass. Rebecca published four books, three related to her work as a licensed therapist, and another gorgeously self-illustrated and beautifully written children's book. In recent years she was teaching herself to play piano. She was an avid reader and her mind was ever engaged in exploring her interests in science, nature, mythology and ancestry.
Following a private cremation, a Celebration of Her Life took place on Sunday, March 17th, during a visitation period at our Somerset Chapel. In lieu of flowers, kindly consider a donation in Rebecca's memory to The Potter League, the shelter where she found her kitties, Cleo & Bandito. info@potterleague.org.
