Rita Marie Carmody, 82, of Fall River, wife of the late Gerald Thomas Carmody, passed away peacefully at Southpointe Nursing Home on Friday, October 11, 2019 after a long illness. Born in Fall River, she was a daughter of the late Peter O. and Elozia (LaRocque) Desrosiers. Prior to her retirement, she was a seamstress in the local textile industry for many years. She loved cooking, crocheting, dancing, and bowling. In the early sixties, she won a beauty contest and was crowned Miss Miss Martin's Sportswear appearing in the annual parade. As a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, Rita also enjoyed spending quality time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She leaves: her children, Jodi M. Kennedy and her husband, Kevin, of Westport, Sheila M. Howard, and Thomas G. Carmody and his wife, Rhonda, both of Fall River; five grandchildren, Jonathan, Norman, Tyler, Cole, and Caleb; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was also the sister of the late Lorraine Riel and the late Edith Beliddo. Her Funeral Service was held on Wednesday, October 16th, in our Fall River Chapel. Her committal took place later that day at the Massachusetts National Cemetery.
