Rita I. (Baraby) Martin, 73, of Fall River, passed away Friday, February 6, 2009, at the Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital in Boston, following an illness. Born in Fall River, she was a daughter of the late Adrien A. Baraby and the late Amanda (Valliere) Baraby. A resident of Fall River and Swansea for most her life, she was employed for many years as a bookkeeper until retiring from St. Jean the Baptist Federal Credit Union. She was a graduate of BMC Durfee High School. Rita nurtured her creative side with arts & crafts and especially enjoyed working with ceramics. She was a member of the Swansea Council on Aging and the Red Hat Society. Surviving family members include her son, Thomas Martin of Fall River, two daughters, Linda Martin-Alfaia of Coventry, RI, and Jo Ann Martin of Beverly Hills, Florida, a brother, William Baraby of Westport, MA, a sister, Jeannine Costa of Fall River, six grandchildren, Matthew Camara of East Providence, RI, Craig Martin, T. J. Martin and Jerrica Martin, all of Tiverton, RI, Sydney Alfaia of Coventry, and Emma Martin of Fall River, and many nieces and nephews. She was also the sister of the late Norman Baraby. Following her cremation, a memorial service was held in Silva Faria Funeral Home on Saturday, February 21.
