Robert
Benevides
d. Jan 25, 2024
Robert Benevides, 84, of Fall River, husband of Jane F. (Silvia) Benevides, passed away at home on Thursday, January 25, 2024. Born in Fall River, he was a son of the late Antone Benevides and the late Herminia (Tavares) Benevides. He served in the US Army and Army Reserves during the Korean Conflict, the Bay of Pigs, and the Berlin Crisis.
Warehouse manager at US Records formerly of Somerset from 1958 to 1985, Robert was then employed for about 5 years as a porter at the Catholic Memorial Home. Following that he worked as a custodian with the Fall River School System for 10 years, retiring in 2010.
Bob was a sweet, kind, caring, and devoted man. His favorite pastime was spending time with his grandchildren. Additionally, while he was still able, he enjoyed fishing, coin and train collecting, playing pool, cards, and bowling. Bob also loved to garden and make bird houses. In later years, he discovered a hidden talent of drawing and making cards for his family. In more recent years, Bob spent most of his time scratching his scratch tickets and watching westerns, old movies, Judge Judy, Price Is Right, Sherlock Holmes' movies, baseball, and football. Bob loved his coffee; he would drink every kind, except flavored, and make it last, no matter how bad it was. Another of his activities he loved was playing cribbage with his brother Tony, and his best childhood friends Paul Chasse and Roland Billeau.
He and his wife Jane shared a life and love relationship that is rarely seen. They were each other's soulmates. She will miss him dearly. Everyone who knew him knew how much he treasured being with his family. He will always be remembered for his infectious and continuous smile, kindheartedness, and his compassion for others. We couldn't have asked for a better husband, dad, and grandpa. His memory will live on in the hearts of all those who had the pleasure of knowing him.
Besides his wife of 57 years, he is survived by: two daughters, Andrea Jane Teixeira (husband David) of Dighton and Arlene Lynne Dumont (husband Norman) of Fall River; four grandchildren, David Teixeira, Jr., Abigail Teixeira, Nicolas Dumont, and Jacqueline Dumont; sisters-in-law, Joan (Silvia) Benevides (Jane's twin) of Fall River and Patricia Silvia of Fall River; brother-in-law, Frank Silvia (fiancée Sharon Cooper) of Hanover; and several nieces and nephews. Robert was also predeceased by his twin brother, Antone Benevides, Jr.
His Funeral Mass was celebrated on Tuesday, January 30th, in Holy Trinity Parish Church followed by his committal at St. Patrick Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in Bob's memory to either the St. Vincent de Paul Society or the Darcy Nientimp Scholarship Fund.
