Obituary

Robert W. "Bob" Desmarais, 73, of Fall River, husband of the late Betty (Turner) Desmarais, passed away unexpectedly at home on Sunday, March 9, 2025. Born in Fall River, he was a son of the late Edmond Desmarais and the late Pauline (Alexander) Daugherty.

Prior to his retirement he worked for the City of Fall River Water Department as an Attendant Watchmen at the Treatment Plant. He was employed there for 26 years retiring in 2013. Prior to joining the Water Department he was the chief for 17 years for residents of the nuns on Eastern Avenue in Fall River. A proud United States Marine Veteran with many metals, he bravely and proudly served our Country during the Vietnam Conflict. Bob was a strong and smart man all his life. He loved cooking and was the best at it! Anyone who he cooked for could vouch this true statement. Enjoyed trips to the casino, and simply being at home watching his old-time movies and late-night thrillers. Bob lived a simple life that he was content with such as daily trips to Market Basket, getting a coffee and visiting different stores throughout the city looking for that winning scratch ticket. He also enjoyed some traveling to such places as Nantucket, the Bahamas, and Las Vegas with his beloved wife.

He leaves his loving children, Barbara Vieira (late husband, Altino "Louie" Vieira) and her companion, Messias Arruda, of Swansea, Brenda Desmarais of Fall River; his five grandchildren, Vanessa Vieira, Austin Vieira, Elizabeth Desmarais, Evrin Desmarais, and Ebony Desmarais; his brothers William "Bill" Desmarais, Mark Desmarais, Gary Desmarais, Alvin Daugherty, his sisters; Linda Cabral, Joyce Desmarais of Fall River, and Tina Daugherty of Indiana and many nieces and nephews. Brother of the late Sharon Daugherty, Olan Daugherty, and Brian Desmarais. His aunt Jean Bisson and the late Rita Ford; his uncle Normand J. Desmarais and late uncle Richard Alexander, and his late grandmother Florence Alexander that he loved dearly for raising him as a child, to become the man he was. He also leaves his cherished dog, "Bella". He was also the brother of the late David Desmarais.

His funeral arrangements were private. In lieu of flowers, kindly consider a donation in his memory to: VFW Post 486, 486 Bedford St., Fall River, MA 02720 or Forever Paws Animal Shelter, 300 Lynwood St., Fall River, MA 02721
