Obituary

Robert Ellis Carpenter passed away peacefully surrounded by family on February 20th, 2024, at the age of 76. Born in Booth, West Virginia, he was the son of the late Isaac and Ethel (Crites) Carpenter. After high school, Robert went into the US Navy as an enlisted communications officer and saw action during the conflict in Vietnam. While in the Navy, stationed in Newport, Robert met the love of his life, Marjorie Ploude (now Carpenter), whom he eventually married and had 4 wonderful children.

Robert was an avid reader who enjoyed submersing himself in many novels involving the wild west as well as being involved with Little League baseball, coaching for many years. He enjoyed hunting and all types of vintage cars but most of all he enjoyed spending time with his grandkids. Always quick witted, Robert and his wife put those skills to work by owning the landmark family business Faneek's Coney Island located in Fall River, MA, until their retirement in 2017.

Robert is survived by his wife of 54 years. Three sons: Robert D Carpenter and his wife Karen of Westport, MA, along with their children Jacob, Nevaeh, Xander and Alyssa; Christopher M Carpenter and his wife Elizabeth of Somerset, MA, along with his children Chelsie, Madison, Aubrey, and Craig; Jeffrey D Carpenter and his wife Christine of Somerset, MA, along with their children Brady and Hannah. A daughter, Melissa (Carpenter) DiCorpo also of Somerset, MA, along with her children Lexi and Sydney. He is also survived by one sister, Dora Marie Evans of Fairmont, West Virginia.

A private funeral service was held in our Somerset Chapel followed by his committal at St. Patrick's Cemetery also in Somerset. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in Robert's memory to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105; 800-805-5856; https://www.stjude.org/donate/donate-to-st-jude.html .
