Robert J. De Soto, 84, of Port St. Lucie, Florida, passed away on Sunday. He was the husband of Nancy A. (Materia) De Soto, with whom he shared 41 years of marriage. Born in Tiverton, RI, son of the late John and Maria (Perry) De Souto. For many years, he was the owner of the former Ocean State Pro Roofing in Tiverton. Besides his wife, Robert is survived by his children, Barbara Amaral of Port St. Lucie, FL, Mary De Souto of Somerset and Robert J. De Soto, Jr. of Tiverton, RI; step-daughter, Patricia Ann Jean of Port St. Lucie, FL; brothers, Antone De Souto of Cape Coral, FL and Dennis De Souto of New Bedford; 6 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; his beloved dog, Shylo; and several nieces and nephews. He was also brother of the late Mary E. "Mamie" Murphy, John Souza, Gloria Medeiros, Jesse Souza, Joe Souza, George Souza, Seraphim "Peter" De Soto, Margaret Thorpe and Irene De Souto. His Funeral Mass was celebrated on Saturday, September 12, in St. Barnabas Church in Portsmouth, RI, followed by his committal with military honors and entombment in the Notre Dame Cemetery Mausoleum.
